Eigentlich ist alles gut, stabil zumindest. Doch dann ist da dieser eine Moment, ein Bild, ein Déja-Vu, ein Geruch, der die Gegenwart bis in die hintersten kognitiven Winkel mit einer brachialen Sehnsucht nach einer verpassten Wirklichkeit flutet. Diesem Moment haben Sundance aus Ostfriesland in ihr Debutalbum Hiraeth gegossen. Hiraeth ist ein walisisches Wort, das eine tiefe, unstillbare Sehnsucht beschreibt. Getrieben von beißend peitschenden Drums werfen sich die mal deutsch, mal englisch herausgeschrienen Texte zwischen wuchtigen Gitarrenwänden hin und her, finden hier und da Schutz in atmosphärischenm Hall oder fragilen Melodien, um Atem zu schöpfen für den nächsten Sprint durch die Härte. Gestartet als unverbindliches Projekt unter fünf Freunden, um den rauen Winter aus dem Proberaum auszusperren, haben Sundance längst eine ambitionierte Eigendynamik zwischen Post-Metal Sound und Post-Hardcore Gestus entwickelt. Wohin sie auch treiben mag – die Sehnsucht bleibt.

Actually, everything is fine—stable, at least. But then there’s that one moment, an image, a déjà vu, a scent that floods the present, down to its deepest cognitive corners, with a brutal longing for a reality that slipped away. Sundance, hailing from East Frisia, have poured this moment into their debut album, Hiraeth. Hiraeth is a Welsh word describing a deep, unquenchable longing. Driven by biting, lashing drums, the lyrics—shouted in German and English—ricochet between massive walls of guitar, occasionally finding shelter in atmospheric reverb or fragile melodies to catch their breath before the next sprint through the harshness. What began as a casual project among five friends to keep the raw winter out of their rehearsal space has long since evolved into an ambitious force of its own, blending post-metal soundscapes with post-hardcore gestures. Wherever their journey may take them, the longing remains.
